Strengthening leadership through the EDI Fellowship
Two members of the Trust Leadership Team have completed the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Fellowship Programme delivered by the Institute for Equity, University Centre — a nationally recognised, research-informed programme for senior leaders responsible for driving equity and inclusion at organisational level.
Leader of Academy Improvement
Academy Development Officer and ITT Associate
The EDI Fellowship is a formal professional qualification for those working in, or aspiring to work in, senior leadership roles focused on equity, diversity and inclusion. It is awarded following assessment by an independent Fellowship Panel and recognises not only the successful completion of the programme, but the meaningful application of learning within a real organisational context.
Through the Fellowship, Alex and James were given time and space to step back, challenge assumptions and deepen their understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion as systemic and structural issues, rather than standalone initiatives or isolated actions. Their learning explored how data, policy, leadership decisions and organisational culture can unintentionally create barriers – and, importantly, how those same levers can be used to remove them.
The programme combined research, data analysis and policy review with practical, reflective case study work, requiring each participant to evidence real impact within their organisation. This ensured learning was not theoretical, but rooted in the everyday realities of leadership within a school trust.
As a result of this shared learning, the Trust is now better equipped to:
-
Use EDI data and evidence thoughtfully to inform strategic decisions
-
Recognise and address unintended barriers within our systems and practices
-
Lead change that is sustained, values-led and embedded in culture, rather than short-term or surface-level
-
Ensure equity and inclusion are considered consistently across governance, leadership and professional services
-
Provide confident, informed leadership on EDI that supports both people and outcomes
This investment in leadership development strengthens our collective capacity as a Trust and reflects our ongoing commitment to inclusive, evidence-informed practice — helping to create environments where pupils, staff and communities feel valued, supported and able to thrive.
